My favourite author Virginia Woolf wrote in her book, “One cannot think well if one has not dined well.” Well, truer words have never been spoken! As I love food, I keep exploring books that celebrate the beauty of a good meal. Here are few of the cookbooks that celebrate the ethnic culture of places, using food as the medium. Have a yummy read!

  1. Sababa by Adeena Sussman

The author is a food writer who has captured her regular visits to Istanbul in this cookbook, where she tells us everything from how to navigate Tel Aviv’s bustling Carmel Market, to which street food snacks to nosh on.

2. THE CURRY BOOK: MEMORABLE FLAVORS AND IRRESISTIBLE RECIPES FROM AROUND THE WORLD (BY NANCIE MCDERMOTT)

Nancie McDermott celebrates the rich eastern flavours of Thailand, Indonesian, Vietnam, and India in her book The Curry Book by laying out recipes along with giving tips on how to formulate food menus.

3. JERUSALEM: A COOKBOOK (BY YOTAM OTTOLENGHI AND SAMI TAMIMI)

OTTOLENGHI and TAMIMI pay homage to the Muslim, Jewish, and Christian savoury traditions of the book’s namesake, by detailing the culture of the city along with the food.

4. The Turkish Cookbook by Musa Daĝdeviren

One of Imnstanbul’s most acclaimed chefs, Daĝdeviren, has beautifully captured the rich Turkish tradition by giving an insight into 500 dishes! He and his wife also run a foundation that works to recover Turkish culinary heritage.

5. Made in Mexico by Danny Mena, with Nils Bernstein

The author infuses elements of a travelogue in his cookbook as he gives details about the best haunts to eat in Mexico before sharing the exquisite recipes.
